Crazy Go Lucky is a graphic design company and clothing line that is run by me, Michael De Jesus, from Union City, California. I started the company in 2006, and originally had made it as a means to make an online portfolio for my art. Over time, I eventually realized I could use the company as brand to make new art. The art and designs I make here consist of such characteristics such as cute, colorful, funny, nerdy, and sometimes strange. The designs are made for various outlets. Outlets like web, print and apparel (which I started in the summer of 2008). As of April 2009, I decided to officially designate Crazy Go Lucky as it's own entity outside of my design portfolio. I felt that Crazy Go Lucky already had it's own defined style and had a range of it's own characters that existed in it's branding. So I decided to make Crazy Go Lucky it's own entity and will later on create a seperate portfolio for my overall work.
To be honest, I am bad with coming up with names. I thought up a lot of names but many were either taken or too weird. Also, I had already acquired the nickname "Crazy" Mike from college, and part of me wanted to implement some of that in the company name. So I just went and looked on google for name ideas and came upon "Crazy Go Nuts University" from the Internet cartoon Strong Bad. So I started thinking of names that were along those lines and then the term "happy go lucky" popped into my head and that's pretty much how the name came about. The name is pretty much "crazy" + "happy go lucky", which I think fits since that's the kinda attitude that fits where I want to go with this endeavor. Also for the hundredth time, the happy go lucky part was not inspired from Family Guy. Sure, I watch Family Guy but the word came into my head without the show's influence.
I am "Crazy" Mike. "Crazy" Mike was a nickname I had acquired in college because I was always hyperactive, jumping around, and random at PCN(Pilipino Cultural Night) class. So the guys there just started calling me "Crazy" Mike and the name just stuck ever since. While the nickname is still used, it has evolved into (in some cases) an exaggerated persona of myself. A persona where I have no inhibitions and allow myself to be more goofy, random, strange, inept, care free, and confused than I usually am.
Precisely, Crazy Go Lucky is a company I run and own. Initially, efforts were made to make this company seem more corporate with a staff, but after some time I had realized the approach was not good. The Crazy Go Lucky has no staff. Crazy Go Lucky is a one man operation. I do not have a fancy office. My office is just a room in my mom's house with a desktop computer and a TV from the 1980's that I used to play NES on. For the online store, there is no massive warehouse where I keep all the Crazy Go Lucky products. I pretty much run operations of the online store in closet in the downstairs bedroom of my mom's house. Really folks, there is nothing special or amazing going on here. It's just one guy, a desktop computer, and a closet that make up Crazy Go Lucky.
I like bananas and thought the word monkey itself was funny. Also as the side note, one of the original names I was thinking of naming the company was "Monkey Kill Bear".
I like Spider-Man and I do the peace sign/Asian pose a lot. It just pretty much worked out like that.
Light blue and green is what I selected to be the company colors. While I don't exactly use the same shade each time I just like to maintain the pairing of some kind of light/bright blue and some kind of green as the Crazy Go Lucky colors.
It's basically what I call the followers, fans, and friends of Crazy Go Lucky.
Right now I do not have the funds to do a full on sponsorship. But if you're in a band and want to support Crazy Go Lucky I can try to work out some kind of discount or collaboration. This not only applies to bands but to people of other talent as well. Talents such as extreme sports or automotive tuning are other areas I would be interested in supporting. If you would like more info or want to discuss about this more with me, send an e-mail to sponsorship@crazygolucky.com.
To make sure this thing stays current, here is my last.fm recently played songs chart:
Even though I have seen a ton of artists much better than me, the answer is no. The whole point of Crazy Go Lucky is to promote and sell my own designs and artwork. It wouldn't really make sense for me to sell works of others. Maybe we can do a collaboration, but that's pretty much it.
Hell no. I don't screen print. Stop asking me this, damn it.
If Crazy Go Lucky starts to pick and gain more of a fan base and more income is made available, lots of things could happen. Obviously the first thing would be more shirts, but I'm also interested in making other things under the Crazy Go Lucky name. Things like hoodies, belts, new button designs, button packs, more stickers, vinyl figures, action figures, shoes, almost anything is possible really. I could pretty much do anything as long as I felt it made sense to Crazy Go Lucky's direction and market.
I have many influences, so here is them listed out by category:
Stylistically: anime, cartoons, video games, comic book art, Japanese and Asian art, current trends in the rock music scene, Nintendo, Sanrio, Tokidoki, Kid Robot
Business Wise: Johnny Cupcakes, Linty Fresh
I was born on March 22, 1984. Do the math.
I am Filipino and Chinese. There has been, and continues to be, confusion over this subject.
No, what makes you think I can speak Chinese? I only understand English and most Tagalog words.
I went to CAL State Hayward (before the name was changed to East Bay). I majored in Art and had concentrations in digital graphics and multimedia. I also minored in Filipino and Filipino American Studies.
I used to have a job at an electronic store in Fremont, California. But the job sucked and I quit at the end of January 2008. So right now I'm technically unemployed. I know what you're thinking, "isn't Crazy Go Lucky your job?" Well to be honest I would like to say it is, but I currently don't make much money from it. So I can't really go and call it what I do for a living quite yet.
I currently reside in Union City, California. I was born in Manila and have also lived in the California cities of Daly City and Fremont.
Never had a girlfriend and never been on a date. I have no idea what this has to do with anything.
I can’t really explain it . I just am attracted to them for some reason.
My glasses are actually clear sunglasses.
Because it is.
I don't drink, I don't smoke, and I don't do drugs. For the most part I don't care if you do any of these things, but I just never felt the need to do any of these things so please don't try to rag on me for it.
My sense of humor has been derived from years of watching the Simpsons, Cartoon Network Adult Swim, Family Guy, American Dad, Dave Chappelle, and Reno 911. I'm not a violent person, nor do I condone violence, it's just for some reason it's kinda funny in some contexts.
It's a weird habit I have to put that to indicate pauses or periods of silence.
To answer this question, here is a recipe for turon:
bananas, ripe saba variety, cut in half and then lengthwise
sugar
jack fruit (langka).
lumpia wrappers
oil for deep frying
1. Place the saba banana pieces on the wrapper and sprinkle sugar over it.
2. Wrap each half in lumpia wrapper with a slice or 2 of jack fruit (langka). Seal the edge of the wrapper with water.
3. Deep fry until brown and crisp. Serve hot.
What Kind Of Car Do You Drive?
I drive a 2006 Artic Blue Pearl Acura TSX 5-speed Automatic. In other parts of the world, it's known as a Honda Accord.
I actually can win matches when I use Samus Aran. Yet I still like to also use characters like Kirby, Meta Knight, and King Dedede. I just can't really use them to win a match that well.
Street Fighter. People have previously thought it was Final Fantasy or Gran Turismo, but it's Street Fighter.
Because if you truly believe in something, somehow it all works out.
