Personally I still don’t believe it, but apparently Chiaki Kuriyama is now a pop singer in Japan. You know, the girl who played Gogo Yubari in Kill Bill. Yeah, that girl O_o. Oddly enough, this song is also the ending theme to Gundam Unicorn. Which maybe the weirdest Gundam series name I’ve ever heard.

I myself found out about this over the weekend and thought that now would be a good time to try this out. Ami Tokito is a Japanese pop singer, gravure model, and talent. She made her gravure debut after wining the Miss Magazine 2005 Tsuku Prize. In terms of her modeling, she seems to have gained notoriety due to her glasses. While many gravure models do wear glasses behind the cameras, few wear them in front of the camera. The only times they would wear glasses while modeling would be for either candid shots or cosplay. Ami on the other hand has the distinction of being rarely ever seen without glasses. Due to this, she is known as a “megadol” or “megane idol” with megane being the Japanese word for eyeglasses. Thus, it is the fact she is a “meganekko” or “glasses girl” that makes her appeal to many otaku. This has even gone as far as Ami releasing her own line of eyeglasses. All of this might be a weird thing to be known for, since some sources say her eyesight is perfectly fine.

As a solo artist her song Sentimental Generation is featured as the opening of the 2nd season of the anime School Rumble. She also happens to perform the closing song for that season of School Rumble as well. Ami also has been featured as a member of Gyaruru a 3 member “Para Para Gal Unit”. A group that dances to and performs upbeat Eurobeat inspired style songs. Currently the status of the group is unknown, as Ami and the 2 other girls are heavily involved in their own separate careers.

Aside from modeling singing, and television appearances Ami has also shown interest in various athletic activities. She has played goalie for the Miss Magazine soccer team and is also an experienced basketball player. In a interesting turn of events, she appeared in the 8th Kunoichi Tournament(Women Of Ninja Warrior). She initially failed somewhat early in the first round and lost again in the second chance round. As an interesting fact, Kunoichi mentioned her profession as being a “glasses model”.
